Colds and Flu – an alternative remedy
Various combinations of herbs are combined in hot teas to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu. A good alternative remedy for colds and flu is made of elder, peppermint, and yarrow. Cayenne, cinnamon, and ginger may be added to flush out the system. This alternative remedy lessens the fever and aches that invariably accompany colds and flu and helps relieve congestion. Adding a spoonful of honey will soothe the inflammation and pain of a sore throat.
The Chinese have used ginger tea for centuries as an alternative remedy for colds and flu. The tea is prepared with one teaspoon of fresh ginger root or one-half teaspoon of powdered ginger in a cup of hot tea. Three or four cups of ginger tea a day will aid in deterring colds and flu viruses.
A popular alternative remedy for colds and flu is Echinacea. Echinacea stimulates the immune system by raising the white blood cell count that is needed to combat viral infections. This alternative remedy relieves the symptoms of colds and flu and aids in a quick recovery.
The Chinese prepare an herbal soup, similar to our traditional chicken soup, in the early fall as an alternative remedy for colds and flu. The soup consists of condonopsis, astragalus, and Chinese yam root, and Lycil berries. Chicken and fresh vegetables may be added to improve the taste. A healthy person should have a cup or bowl, twice a day for 12 days, to build up resistance against colds and flu and balance the urinary and respiratory systems.
